Our Fiji Refit!
Haul out
Having a 4.2m draft makes finding a yard able to lift us tricky!
Even at high tide the channel leading into the basin was too shallow for us, so we tied a huge inflatable tube underneath one side of our hull in order to heel us over to reduce our draft!
We managed in Vuda Marina in Fiji thanks to the amazing staff who made this possible for us! They even dug us two narrow cyclone pits for our keel and rudder, thanks Vuda!
Above deck
Our first job when we arrived in Vuda Marina in Fiji was to remove our 30m carbon fibre mast before cyclone Yasa hit in December 2020.
Bowsprit Installation
We reinstalled our 2m carbon fibre bow sprit to fly our gennakers further forward
New forestay
Having the mast down also gave us the chance to add a third middle forestay to which we attached the original racing tuff luff that was originally on our front forestay
BELOW DECK
Heads
We moved the position of our heads, which meant we spent our Christmas holidays removing the walls and contents of the heads ready to reposition in the port bow
Saloon
We cut out some of the previously decommissioned water ballast tanks in the saloon in order to enlarge the sofa and make a larger dining area.
Next we cut out an area in the middle for the table and extended the ends on either side...
Water Ballast
We are re-commissioning some of the old water ballast tanks, this time to use with drinking water! Instead of installing a pump to pump the water in and out, we plan to let gravity to do the work. Just before we tack, we will open a valve to let the water flow from the windward to leeward side.
Here's an interior tour we made mid refit
HULL
We prepared our hull for antifouling by first stripping back the old antifoul
A few weeks later...
